Struggling to see the emotional ‘wood for the trees’?

Are you fighting to get through each day but don’t know what else to do?

You have no idea what to change, never mind how.

It’s a real thing; I know because I did it for 30 plus years.

Like you, I thought I was doing all the right things, taking a bubble bath, lighting candles, asking for help and trying many many therapies.

Each time they didn’t quite hit the mark, I would become qualified in each & every therapy to see ‘Where I had gone wrong’.

Here’s the secret………….. I hadn’t gone wrong at all.

I just wasn’t clear on what I really needed or wanted. I knew I wanted to feel better but I wasn’t even sure what ‘feeling better’ was.

But how do you find out what will make you feel better?

Maybe, you are feeling so overwhelmed that an enquiry about what’s for dinner, sends you to the edge?

How do you begin to work it out?

Well, some of my clients find doing this mirror exercise really useful.

Make a block of time for yourself, preferably somewhere you will not be disturbed. Now, close your eyes and relax. Picture a mirror in your home and imagine yourself looking in. The reflection is of you a year from today and you are happy – take a few moments to really picture and feel it.

Now ask yourself these questions;

  • How do you know you are happy?
  • What’s changed?
  • Who’s in your life?
  • How is your health?
  • How are your children?

Doing this in a truthful, meaningful way will give you the answers that you need. It will help you to start getting clear on what it is you now want to achieve to make that vision of you a reality.

This is all it really takes because……….. you have the power to create a whole new way of life!

You can give yourself permission to dream. You can give yourself permission to be happy and, you can give yourself permission to matter.

You really can, you just have to decide what you want your new life to look like and then, you can begin.

Of course, you will have to do some work to get there but being clear on your goal gives you focus and clarity.  

However, more importantly it begins to clear away overwhelm, that intense emotion you feel when you believe that something is too challenging to manage and overcome.

You may need some help to deal with old beliefs and here is the great news, you don’t even have to know what they are. You just need a clear vision of where you want to be, clearing old beliefs is just a stage in the journey.

Having that future vision of you in sight, helps you to stay motivated and do the work.

Maybe you need some help to decide whether you are ready to start your transformation. If so, try doing the mirror exercise again. This time, imagine the reflection is of you a year from today and you are just the same, nothing has changed – take a few moments to really picture and feel it.

 Now ask yourself these questions;

  • How are you feeling?
  • Are you happy?
  • Who’s in your life?
  • How is your health?
  • How are your children?

Comparing the two exercises usually helps to clarify and cement what it is you want and, what it is you don’t.
